CHURCH-ProfileThe Evangelical Lutheran Free Church in DenmarkEvangelical: First and foremost we call ourselves "Evangelical" because God has given us life through the "Evangelion", that is the Gospel of what He has done for us in Jesus Christ. Lutheran: By being "Lutheran" we acknowledge the Lutheran reformation in the 1500 years, that brought the light of the Gospel back to the Church. In particular we refer to the Lutheran Confessions which present the doctrines of the Gospel in accordance with the Scriptures. Free: We are a free Church separated from the state because the Church in general should be free from state control and intervention particularly in a time when the civil authorities cannot be expected to adhere to Christ nor be trusted to respect the freedom and unique nature of the Church. ChurchOur congregations know themselves to be part of the Church universal on earth and in Heaven Our existence and life depends on living in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our right to exist in his world depends on us living to preach and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world. "Our congregations teach that there will always remain one holy Church, which is the community of saints, in which the Gospel is proclaimed in purity and the sacraments are rightly administered." (The Augsburg Confession, article 7). Jesus says: "All power in Heaven and on earth is given unto me. Go therefore and make all nations my disciples baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit and teaching them to keep all I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you until the end of the world." (Matt 28:18-19).Confession of FaithOur Congregation adhere to the Bible as the Word of God and to the ancient creeds and the confession of the Lutheran Church as a authentic understanding of Christian doctrine. The Bible or Holy Scripture: We believe that the books of the Old Testament and the New Testament are the fully reliable and inerrant Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and written by prophets and apostles appointed by God. The Bible is our only source and measure for Christian faith, doctrine and living. The Ancient Creeds of the Church: We confess to the Christian faith as it is confessed in the Apostolic, Nicene and Athanasian Creeds. The Lutheran confessions: We confess to the doctrine of the Gospel as it was restored to the Church through the Reformation. It is expressed in Luther's Small Catechism and the Augsburg Confession. MinistryThe ministry exercised in the congregations springs from the presence of Christ Jesus in the congregation through His Spirit in His Word; it springs from the fact that He has sent His disciples to the world.
Goal: Blessedness in peace and joy with the Lord now and in eternity - for all.
Past and Present History:The first congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Free Church of Denmark was founded in Copenhagen in 1855 a called pastor N.P. Grunnet. This happened only a few years after the Danish Constitution had introduced religious freedom in Denmark. Part of the reason for this action was rationalism and secularism already then being allowed and promoted within the Popular Church. The motivation was a firm trust in Christ to provide for His Church and to build and nurture her through the proclamation of the authentic Gospel and a faithful administration of the holy sacraments. In the late 1800's congregation grow up on Seelland, Langeland, Funen, Bornholm and in Jutland. The 1900's saw progress as well as regress. The youngest Congregation is Gratia ("Grace") in Aarhus (founded 1984). The Evangelical Lutheran Free Church of Denmark today represents a variety of people at different stages in life.
